.ps Domain Background

In the year 2000, ICANN allotted the .ps extension as the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Palestinian territories. The registration service for .ps domain names is supervised by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology which has put the Palestinian National Internet Naming Authority (PNINA) in full charge of the registration policies. A number of certified registrars are managed and administered by the PNINA.

.ps Domain Registration Requirements

All entities, including individuals and organizations, whether local or international, can register single or multiple domain names under .ps zone. For the registration of a .ps domain, organizations should be represented by the administrative contact as per PNINA. For the domain name, it is best to use the full name of the entity or an abbreviation of the entity’s name. The domain name chosen can also be one that bears some kind of resemblance to the entity’s services or products. If the registrant is not the owner of the trademark or service mark of the company, then using either of these as part of the domain name is not recommended. It is necessary to prove the identity of the owner before the authority.

The domain name can include alphanumeric characters and hyphens; however, hyphens cannot be used at its beginning or the end. The name you create can be made up of three to sixty three characters.

Second Level .ps Domain Names Include:

  • .edu.ps — for educational establishments and foundations
  • .gov.ps — for Palestine National Authority (PNA) institutions
  • .sec.ps — for security organizations
  • .plo.ps — for Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) entities
  • .com.ps — for commercial enterprises
  • .org.ps — for non-commercial organizations
  • .net.ps — for network companies and Internet Service Providers

For registration purposes, the applicant has to select a certified registrar (CR) from the list displayed at http://www.nic.ps. The application form (available with the CR) has to be submitted to the PNINA through this certified registrar. The registration fee information is available at the website of this registrar you choose. It is possible to transfer, modify, or renew the .ps registration through your CR.
