.kw Domain Name Background

The .kw extension, introduced in the year 1992, is the official Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Kuwait. The registration of .kw domain is open only to Kuwaiti citizens, companies, and organizations.

The Kuwait Domain Name System Has the Following Sub Domains:

  • edu.kw : For academic and research institutions
  • com.kw : For commercial entities and individuals
  • net.kw : For commercial entities and individuals
  • org.kw : For non-profit organizations
  • gov.kw : For government entities

.kw Domain Registration Process

To register a .kw domain name, an individual must submit a copy of his or her identification card and a brief paragraph stating his or her intention to register the domain name. In the case of non profit, commercial and academic entities, a formal request, certified with official signature and seal, must be forwarded by the manager. Additionally, each of these entities has to produce a valid certificate from their concerned agency stating their involvement with the agency and their field of practice. For government entities, a letter must be directed from the Minister’s or Public Relation Office.

The registrations are provided using the licensed ISPs in Kuwait. The .kw domain can be registered for two years at the cost of 40 Kuwaiti Dinars and renewed biannually for 40 Kuwaiti Dinars. Modification, deletion and transferring of domain names can also be made at no additional cost.
