.jobs Domain Registration

.jobs Domain Background

The .jobs registration is intended for jobs-related websites. The .jobs gTLD was officially designated by ICANN on April 8, 2005. The Society for Human Resource Management is the official sponsoring organization of this domain.  The most commonly used form of domain registration under .jobs extension is companyname.jobs. Before the introduction of this domain extension, companies often simply used sub-domains such as as jobs.ibm.com.

The Charter of Employ Media (the .jobs Registry Operator) states that “only members of the international HR management community are qualified to apply for a .jobs domain name. Currently, Employ Media only accepts registration applications from qualified applicants, and only for domains that correspond to the applicant’s company’s name or trade name (“companyname” domain names).  There is currently a push to include general category .jobs domains like www.marketing.jobs, etc.
