To register an .hk domain name, you must either have a company, a charity or educational institution registered in Hong Kong. In addition, an organization that desires to register a .hk domain name must follow the latest registration agreement set by the Hong Kong Domain Name Registration Company Limited (HKDNR). All registrants are eligible to apply for multiple domain names, but all those whose domain names are under old agreement can register for only one .hk domain name. Any Hong Kong identity card holder who is 11 or older may apply for individual domain names (.idv.hk). Overseas individuals or entities are also eligible for .hk registration.

Second-level registrations are also open to all entities registered in Hong Kong and allow the following sub domains:
