.edu.hk Domain Names Registration, Process, Regulations

The sub-domain .edu.hk is associated with certified educational organizations, licensed institutions, and similar associations in the field of education in Hong Kong. Like all Hong Kong domains, registry is through the Hong Kong Domain Name Registration Company (HKDNR), which is sponsored by the Hong Kong University.

Approved institutions and organizations in HKSAR (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) can register an .edu.hk English/Chinese domain name. The registrant has to provide a copy of the certificate of registration from the HKSAR Government Education Department, or other relevant documentary proof. In the process of registering the sub-domain, the applicant is to follow the conditions proposed by the authority of the HKDNR. In regards to minors, the registration will be a joint application with his or her guardian and will be the full responsibility of the guardian.

Accurate documents are to be produced at the time of application and can be requested at a later date. If this information is not provided, the registration might be refused or cancelled. The proposed domain name should be used only for legal activities. Any fees are to be paid as stated in the registration agreement.

In regard to renewal and transference, the domain name can be renewed, so long as all the appropriate information is still true; however the domain cannot be transferred if the educational institution is shut down or terminated by the authority or according to the rules of the HKDNR. Also, the HKDNR has the right to cancel the name on appropriate grounds.
