A domain name gives you a unique identity for your website on the Internet. In order to get visibility online, it is essential to have a well chosen domain name to represent your company.
Keyword Rich Domains
Selection of the right domain name is the most important step in any website marketing strategy. In order to attract targeted search traffic, a keyword rich domain name is essential. This means including keywords that your customers would use to search for your product or service in your domain name.
Domain Relevancy
Your domain name should match the product or service you offer. Select a domain name that reflects the character of your website and the unique products and services you provide. It is advisable to choose a domain name that can be easily reached through type-in traffic or bookmarked traffic methods.
Take care to verify that the chosen domain name is not a trademarked one. Dot com domains are among the most popular ones today and most of these domain names are easily recognizable and highly attractive.
A well-chosen domain name can give you the following advantages:
- Safeguards your particular brand
- Increases exposure
- Localizes your business
- Promotes your products in targeted markets
- Increases your sales
- Drives qualified traffic, leads and potential customers to your website
Finally, make sure your domain name is memorable – choose one that your target audience will easily remember.

Hi,
I’m looking to expand an already existing product domain name to add more products. As a result, i’ll need to change the URL. How can I go about this to ensure maximum success? (i.e. do i keep my existing url and redirect to new site, do i just get a new name and drop the existing url). Thanks
I would say that this depends on a few factors.
a. does your existing domain have domain authority? (i.e. pagerank, existing traffic, good history) If so, it might make sense to keep this as its own site and build a new site for new products (assuming that they can’t be folded into the existing site.
b. if your existing domain doesn’t have much domain authority, traffic, etc. I would just redirect it to your new domain. You can learn more about how to do proper 301 redirects without losing “seo juice” here.
c. I would hold on to your existing domain….especially if there’s a chance that a competitor could snatch it up and develop a similar site.
