What is the purpose of .com.tw domains?
The sub-domain .com.tw is the nationalized domain for companies, firms and organizations that are commercial entities in Taiwan. The domain .tw was introduced in 1989 as the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Republic of China (Taiwan). The Taiwan Network Information Centre (TWNIC) acts as the registry administrator and is the sponsor of the domain and all sub-domains.
An organization applying to register or renew a registration has to inform the registrar. The registrar then has to agree that the application is genuine and that the domain name does not violate any other person’s interest or rights. Additionally, the organization must agree that the domain name will not to be used for any illegal purpose and it will be used only according to the rules and regulations of the registration process.
The registered domain can be cancelled or transferred by the registry administrator if the prescribed rules and regulations have been violated. The provider will settle the dispute according to the rules provided by the Registry Administrator and the decision would be posted on a public website. The domain name registration cannot be transferred if there is a proceeding or arbitration pending in a court. In addition, the policy can be modified by the Registry Administrator if necessary and it will be effective within thirty days.
A domain name with the .com.tw extension may contain 63 characters or less and the name should contain only ‘a-z’ characters, ’0-9′ numbers and the ‘-’ (hyphen) character; however, the name should not start or end with the hyphen and the name should not consist of two consecutive ‘-’ characters. The .com.tw domain name can be registered for a single year or for 2, 3, 5 or 10 years. The .com.tw can be registered on-line through a qualified Taiwanese Registrar or a Neulevel certified Registrar at a fixed cost.
