Second-Level Domains for Singapore
The .net.sg is a country code second-level domain extension associated with Singapore. It is administered by the Singapore Network Information Center (SGNIC) and is available to network providers and info-com operators in Singapore. Government organizations that have registered .gov.sg domain names can also register those names with this extension if needed. Potential applicants who do not reside in Singapore, but are interested in registering a .net.sg domain name, must assign a local resident as an administrative contact.
There are several guidelines that one must follow when choosing a domain name:
- Letters, numbers, and hyphens can be used.
- The hyphen is the only non-numeric character that can be included, but it cannot be used either at the beginning or at the end of the domain name.
- It is important to ensure that the domain name chosen does not infringe the interests and rights of any third party.
In order to register a .net.sg domain name, an application form must be submitted to SGNIC by the applicant. Only a single domain name can be registered per application, and each application must contain information concerning the info-com network that will be associated with the domain name. Finally, the registrar must ensure that the information provided by the applicant is accurate.
The SGNIC is not responsible for any dispute between the registrant and any party other than SGNIC regarding the .net.sg domain registration and its use. The applicant must pay a registration fee, renewable fee, transfer fee and other fees due through the registrar to SGNIC, which has the right to cancel the .net.sg domain name registration if the registrar does not pay those fees.
The applications are processed by the SGNIC on a first-come first-served basis. Registrars accredited by the SGNIC may also carry out the .net.sg registration process. Even if the application is accepted by the registrar, the SGNIC can reject it. Modification, updates, deletions, renewals and transfers of a .net.sg domain name registration are carried out according to rules and regulations contained in the registration agreement.
